Cookie Statement

We have secured our website as well as possible to prevent abuse, so your visits to our website are safe. All employees with access to your data are under an obligation to keep this data confidential.

Cookies for convenient website visits

We want your visit to our website to be as pleasant and convenient as possible. We often need to use cookies to achieve this. Cookies are small text files which are automatically stored on your computer, tablet or smartphone when you visit our website. Cookies do not always allow us to identify you individually. If you do not create an account and do not enter any other personal data on the website, the website only knows that someone with a certain cookie has returned.

Sometimes permission is needed for a cookie, but often it is not

Normally, we are only allowed to place cookies if you have given your permission. We ask for this permission on the website. You can also withdraw your permission. In that case, we will no longer use or place cookies. You can always remove cookies yourself via the browser of your computer, tablet or smartphone.

Not all cookies require permission. You do not have to give permission for cookies that are necessary to communicate with you via the internet or to deliver a service or product. These may be cookies used to identify you on your next visit to the website. You then only have to provide your data or indicate your preferences for certain services or settings once. By doing so, we continually improve the ease of use of our website.

What else do we use cookies for?

We also use cookies to collect data about the use of our website, e.g. about the number of website visitors. Cookies allow us to see which information is important to our visitor and which is not. This helps us keep the website interesting for you.

We use tracking cookies to personalise the content of the website and to put together your profile. You then get to see a website that we have customised according to your interests. For instance, if you have seen our web pages about savings products, mortgages or non-life insurance products, you may be shown special offers for these products.

Tracking cookies allow us to monitor which pages of the website you visit and which search terms you use. We combine this with other data, such as the referring website, day and time of your visit, the search engine you use and certain other technical data, such as your browser settings and your operating system. We store this data in a profile that we can update each time you visit our website. If you are already a customer, we can add customer information that we already know to your profile. We do not share profiles with businesses that are not part of VIVAT.

We can only place tracking cookies on your computer, tablet or smartphone with your permission. Not all our websites use tracking cookies. If you do not accept tracking cookies, you will not receive any offers or information that may be of interest to you. You can, of course, continue to use our online services, such as online banking and your personal account, even if you do not want to accept tracking cookies.

How long are cookies valid for?

Many cookies are temporary cookies that are automatically deleted when you close your browser. The length of time that other cookies stay on your computer varies from one cookie to the next. For more information, please visit the website.

Your own account

A number of businesses of VIVAT give you the option to create your own secure account where you can make payments or view your insurance products, for example.

Once you have logged into your account, you can see messages about products and services. These messages are tailored to you. They have been selected based on your profile and the interests that you have expressed on the website. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you can opt out in your account settings. You can also easily turn them back on again if you want to be sure you are not missing out on interesting news.

Third-party cookies

We may use the advertising technologies of external suppliers to gain an understanding of the effectiveness of online ads that we place on our own website and other websites. These suppliers include DoubleClick and Google. The cookies of our suppliers are referred to as third-party cookies. We also ask your permission for these cookies, as they allow us to track which website you came from to get to ours. This allows us to measure how effective our ads on other websites are. We also use these cookies to monitor which pages of the website you visit and which search terms you use. We save this data in your profile. If you later visit another website using the same advertising technology, the cookie on your computer is compared to the cookie data in our database. Based on your profile, we can then decide which ads to show you on the other website.

Using this advertising technology, data about your use of our websites is stored with the external supplier whose advertising technology services we use. The external suppliers cannot identify the person that this data came from.

Other use of the customer profile

If you are a customer of ours, we can use your profile when we inform you by post, phone, text message or email about our products and services. For instance, if you have shown an interest on the website or in your own online account in a savings account or insurance product, we can then contact you via email or post with offers. Your profile can also be used by our employees, e.g. our Customer Service Team, so that they can help you more effectively. Your profile also gives us the opportunity to keep you more up-to-date on the products and services that might interest you.

If you do not want your profile to be used to inform you about our products and services by post, phone, text message or email, you can let us know at any time. Our contact details can be found at the end of this Cookie Policy.

Social media

Our websites may include social media buttons for Google+, Facebook or Twitter. This Cookie Policy does not apply to our social media. Use of social media is your own responsibility. We advise you to read up on the personal data protection policies of these social media platforms so you are aware of how they treat your data. Many social media services are located outside the European Union and may store your personal data outside the European Union. This means it is possible that your data might not be subject to the same standard of protection as within the European Union. If we have a page on one of these social media platforms, such as Facebook, this Cookie Policy does apply to our own page content.

External links

Our website contains links to third-party websites. This Cookie Policy does not apply to these websites. We try to make sure external links are up-to-date and refer you to the right websites. However, we are not responsible for the content of these websites or the way these websites treat your personal data. We advise you to always read up on how other websites treat your personal data.

Recording of phone calls and logging of other communications

Some of our services are provided by phone. In certain situations, we may record phone calls, e.g. to verify and investigate instructions and transactions, to prevent and combat fraud, and to train our staff. Where possible, you have the right to hear the recorded conversation or receive a written transcript of the call.

If you have ordered a product or service from us online, we will store the details of your application. We may also decide to store your click behaviour before and after you complete the application for purposes of fraud prevention. This allows us to see whether an application form has been completed truthfully, for example. For instance, if an insurance product that was initially rejected is later accepted by us after certain answers in the order form have been changed.

Central Information System (CIS) database

Insurance companies operating in the Netherlands log insurance data in the Central Information System. This database is managed by the CIS foundation, which is located at Bordewijklaan 2, 2591 XR The Hague. The insurance companies of VIVAT can view your data and enter it into the Central Information System. This is done to ensure responsible underwriting, risk and fraud policies. Please visit for more information and the CIS privacy policy.

Access to your personal data

You can ask us to tell you what personal information of yours we process. This right has been enshrined in the Dutch Personal Data Protection Act. We will send you a list of your personal data within four weeks. We may charge a fee for this.

You can ask us to amend any incorrect data or to add further information. If you believe that your personal data should be erased, e.g. because processing it constitutes a breach of the Personal Data Protection Act, you should let us know. Our contact details can be found at the end of this Cookie Policy.

Changes to the Cookie Policy

We may make changes to this Cookie Policy, for example when the law or our policy changes. That is why we recommend that you consult the Cookie Policy regularly by visiting our website.

Please contact us if you have any questions about this Cookie Policy.
